Frequently Asked

Matters of etiquette.

How do I become a member of 1790?

Membership is extended exclusively through introduction by an existing member. There is no public application. If you would like to learn more, our Director of Membership is happy to receive a discreet inquiry through our Contact page.

What does membership include?

Members enjoy priority reservations in the dining room, full access to our private rooms, the complete society calendar of events, and the personal attention of our concierge team. Specifics are reviewed in detail during your audience.

Where in Columbia County are you located?

We occupy a restored 18th-century house in the village of Hudson, New York — a private establishment marked only by a small brass plaque at the entrance. The full address is shared with members and confirmed inquiries.

May I bring guests?

Members may host up to four guests in the dining room and parties of any approved size in our private spaces. We ask that guests be introduced in advance so our team may prepare a proper welcome.

Is there a dress code?

We observe smart attire. Members and guests are expected to dress with the consideration the room deserves — jackets are encouraged in the evening, denim is welcome at lunch.

Can I host a private event?

Yes. Members may reserve any of our three private rooms — the Library, the Hudson Room, and the Cellar — for board meetings, celebrations, and intimate gatherings. Our concierge handles every detail of menu, service, and atmosphere.
